About the Topic Nedumkotta Travancore Lines
Nedumkotta, popularly known as the Travancore Lines, was a massive fortification built collaboratively by the Kingdom of Travancore and the Kingdom of Cochin. Designed primarily under the supervision of the Dutch commander Eustachius De Lannoy, this historic defense wall aimed to obstruct the aggressive expansion of Tipu Sultan, the ruler of Mysore, into southern Kerala during the late 18th century. Spanning about 48 kilometers from Kodungallur to the Anamalai hills, it was a marvel of military engineering. Today, the remnants of this historic earthen wall and its deep trenches can still be witnessed by heritage enthusiasts in the village of Karukutty.
