Blood Disorder Patient Care Crisis Kerala

Post by Pranav »

Blood-related disorders such as Thalassemia and Hemophilia represent a silent healthcare crisis in Kerala, India, particularly in the underdeveloped Malabar region. While a Bone Marrow Transplant offers a permanent cure, its exorbitant cost of over 50 Lakhs INR remains unattainable for average families. Consequently, patients must undergo lifelong blood transfusions, which pose severe risks of systemic iron overload and life-threatening infections. Alarmingly, major government hospitals in Malabar lack dedicated isolation wards for these vulnerable individuals, drastically compounding their exposure to cross-infections. Immediate, structured governmental intervention is essential to subsidize advanced treatments and bridge these critical regional gaps in clinical infrastructure.
